Olivia Rodrigo - "Sour" (2021)
I. Inspiration
Olivia Rodrigo's visual aesthetic for her "Sour" album perfectly captures the raw emotion and teenage angst that is at the heart of the album's themes. The use of the color lilac is particularly effective in creating a dreamlike atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and fresh. The bold imagery, such as the close-up of Olivia's tear-streaked face on the album cover, conveys a sense of vulnerability and honesty that is reflected in the lyrics of the songs.

II. Logo
To create my artwork, I drew inspiration from one of the pictorials in Rodrigo's album and used Illustrator to sketch out her face. I wanted to include other elements from the album, such as the lilac color, a broken heart, and the name of the album. To stay true to the album's playful and nostalgic teenage energy, I opted for fonts with soft curves but hard edges. However, as I continued with my design, I decided to forego using Rodrigo's face altogether. Instead, I chose to focus on the broken heart and added stickers that decorated her face onto it. The final artwork captures the youthful and nostalgic tone of the album while also incorporating the broken heart, which is significant to the album's themes.

III. Logo Breakdown
To ensure that my artwork aligned with the vibe of Rodrigo's album, I decided to use a crayon brush set. This choice added a lively touch to the design while staying true to the overall tone of the album. Throughout the project, I alternated between pastel and vibrant colors to distinguish the stickers from the soft hues of the heart. This was done to create a clear visual contrast between the elements and ensure that the design was visually engaging. After careful consideration, I selected the "All-round Gothic bold" font to bring the entire design together cohesively. The result is an artwork that effectively captures the youthful and lively essence of the album while incorporating the various design elements in a visually pleasing manner.

IV. Merchandise Design
To bring my designs to life, I utilized mockups to create realistic representations of the concert tickets, billboard advertisement, and t-shirt. By using mockups, I was able to visualize how the designs would look in real-life situations, which helped me to make necessary adjustments and ensure that the final products would be visually appealing. For the concert tickets, I stayed true to my sticker design, which featured a heartbroken theme and bold typography, while also incorporating the necessary event details. The billboard advertisement was designed to look like a license plate, inspired by Olivia Rodrigo's hit song "Driver's License".
Finally, for the concert t-shirt, I opted for a minimalist design that listed down various states and provinces in North America where the artist had a significant following. The use of mockups allowed me to refine my designs and produce high-quality products that were both aesthetically pleasing and effective in promoting the artist and the event.
